Spanish writer and winner of the 1989 Nobel Prize in Literature and the 1995 Premio de Cervantes.
His first novel was the existential The Family of Pascual Duarte which played a large part in shaping the direction of post Civil War Spanish literature. His best known work, The Hive, was published in 1951, and like other writing of this period it had to be published in South America due to it being banned by Franco’s government. His later work was increasing experimental, for example in Christ Versus Arizona he includes a single sentence that is over one hundred pages long.
