English novelist; best known for his story Moonfleet. He was born in Wiltshire, England and was educated at Marlborough College, Oxford. After leaving Oxford he had a career with the Armstrong Whitworth armaments company and wrote in his spare time. Moonfleet is an adventure story that deals with smuggling in the eighteenth century.
