British author, best remembered for his children’s books in The Chronicles of Narnia series.
He was born in Belfast and schooled in England. Lewis enlisted in the British Army in 1917, but was wounded during the Battle of Arras. After his discharge from the army he returned to his studies at University College, Oxford.
He taught at Magdalen College, Oxford for around thirty years before teaching at the University of Cambridge. As well as his career as a scholar he also wrote novels both for children and adults and several books on Christianity. Lewis died on the same day as John F. Kennedy and Aldous Huxley.
