British poet, born in Cornwall. He first became known in the 1930’s for his poetry and then he became known as a critic and reviewer and compiler of anthologies. He published 13 collections of poetry, and wrote on travel, on art, and on the English countryside. His third wife was the food writer Jane Grigson.
